The Granny Awards
A Musical Production presented by Lincoln 4th & 5th Grade
The Fourth and Fifth Grade students from Lincoln Elementary School performed a full length musical prduction called "The Granny Awards" at Edison School on March 30, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. The Fourth and Fifth Grade students at Lincoln have been performing entertaining productions with acting, singing and dancing for the past 22 years.
The students are offered a unique opportunity to attend play practice for six weeks, where they recieve enrichment in drama and music. This year we had 61 students audition for a part in our musical, and all of those students received a part. It is a long and standing tradition at Lincoln that all of the students who audition get a part. Special parts are created for the students, so that all of them can participate and experience an acting part. Drama is not part of the elementary curriculum in Janesville, so this opportunity is very special for the students.
The students are given opportunities to explore their potential in drama and music during our six weeks of play practice. They learn
theatre terms, do theatre games, get instruction in acting and singing, and also work on character traits such as respect,
responsibility, self-discipline, trust and teamwork. Being in a production helps our students gain self-confidence in front of an
audience and does wonders for their self-esteem. And many times we find that "a star is born" during our productions.
We had a packed audience at Edison on March 30, and the audience seemed to really enjoy our efforts. The audience was involved, laughed constantly and even cried at the end. The students did such a wonderful job and the results were fantastic this year. We hope to continue our Lincoln Lion musical tradition!
